Question Six from the All Souls exam was something along the lines of the Fermi paradox. Why haven't we seen signs of extraterrestrial life given the high probability, according to some, that it exists. Anyhow, I cheated the exam on this one and googled the question. I then ended up stumbling across the web page for the Fermi paradox, which pretty much covers the issue from every angle imaginable. If you have an incredibly amount of interest/patience it makes for a great read. Note: one of the main criterion for modern readers is brevity. People still consume vast amounts of text but they do it in truncated formats. That said, it's still an interesting read.
I remember listening to a long now talk maybe a year ago or two when this lady made the cast that ET life doesn't exist, and she had some logical reason, which now slips my mind. Incidentally, I once heard this great thing that has now slipped my mind should probably be the title of my memoir/a really boring story. As for as ET goes, I'm not really certain it exists. I'd guess that it would be hard regardless of other life forms even existing for them to have hit the same level of complexity in regards to something like radio waves or satellite images, which makes it nearly impossible for us to ever discover a fellow sentient planet. This aside from the fact that other habitable planets may be few and far between, or they may just have a bunch of sharks or dinosaurs and not anything remotely resembling humans.
Alternative answer: The government is covering it up.
Alternative answer: They are already among us.
Alternative answer: We are some giant science experiment they don't want to interfere with.
Alternative answer: We are serving as some environmental easement project.
Alternative answer: We are the sole planet with habitable life in the universe. This despite the Copernican objection. Ie, we are special.
Alternative answer: and so on....
Regardless of our place in the universe babies are still cute. Let's celebrate that a little bit. Also, heavy narration by fathers during family videos is also something to celebrate.
She's at her best first thing in the morning. This is not a trait we share. Note that she waves to the camera at 47.
Narration is what keeps videos great.
